Only specialists have heard of Alfred JACQUESSON, the brilliant inventor of the wire hood. VIP wishes to pay tribute to him because his invention has contributed to the commercial growth of champagne since 1844 when his patent was registered.

It has to be said that since then, apart from the printing techniques used on wire hood caps, which have obviously made it possible to customise them to an extent, and much to the satisfaction of those collectors who go by the attractive name of ‘placomusophiles’ (wire hood cap collectors), there have been no other technical improvements.
